Ist hiervon nur eine der beiden Genkopien betroffen, wird die Person als Intermediate Metabolizer (IM) bezeichnet. Sind beide Kopien betroffen, spricht man von einem Poor Metabolizer (PM). Nicht betroffene Personen sind Extensive Metabolizer (EM). Eine bestimmte Variation verst\u00e4rkt jedoch auch die CYP2C19-Aktivit\u00e4t, was in heterozygoter Form (nur eine Genkopie ist verst\u00e4rkt funktionell) zum sog. Rapid Metabolizer (RM)- und in homozygoter Form (beide Genkopien sind verst\u00e4rkt funktionell) zum Ultrarapid Metabolizer (UM)-Status f\u00fchrt. CYP2C19 spielt eine wichtige Rolle beim Metabolismus verschiedener Antidepressiva, Benzodiazepine und Protonenpumpen Inhibitoren, ist aber z.B. auch an der Aktivierung des Prodrugs Clopidogrel beteiligt.
